Changes for 2021-2022 School Year
The Elizabethtown Independent Schools Board voted on Monday, June 21, 2021, to approve a revised start and dismissal times for Elizabethtown High School, TK Stone Middle School and Valley View Education Center. Elizabethtown High School and TK Stone Middle will move to a school day schedule of 8:25 a.m. to 3:25 p.m. Valley View will move to a schedule of 8:25 a.m to 3:15 p.m. All other district schools’ schedules will remain the same as in the 20/21 school year. At the same meeting, the board also approved a proposal to utilize Early Release Fridays. Each Friday, all schools will dismiss approximately 2 hours earlier than usual.
These changes have been approved with the goal of improving the well-being and safety of students as well as increasing student achievement and learning. The adjusted start times for middle and high schools allow for the separation of elementary students from the middle/high students on busses as well as drastically reduced wait time for bus students before and after school. Additionally, traffic congestion will be relieved at the school campuses helping to further improve safety for all.
The early release on Fridays will help to increase student learning by providing extended services for individual students in many areas to include homework help, intervention, enrichment and more. At the same time, the Friday schedule will allow for staff collaboration and learning in order to facilitate continuous learning in the area of instructional practices. Parents and students can expect further communication with detailed information in the near future.
This initiative will work to meet the goals of the Elizabethtown Independent Schools Strategic plan by working to provide learning experiences and an environment that meets the individual needs of each student. Furthermore, the change will assist in attracting the highest quality staff by supporting and promoting continuous professional growth. These changes will work together to allow EIS to further build upon its tradition of excellence.
