Student Council Members

MES Student Council

Morningside Elementary School Student Council is organized to provide leadership opportunities for students in 4th grade.  The purpose of our student council is to provide exposure to activities and interactions beyond their traditional classroom environment.  The MES Student Council will allow the students to participate in activities which build leadership, responsibility, and a broader sense of participation in the community and school. 

Membership
The student council will have a total of 12 students.  Fourth grade students will be elected by homeroom classmates.  In addition, there will be 4th graders selected by their teachers.

Expectations
It is expected that students will meet the following criteria in order to be eligible for participation: 
-They must show respect to their teachers, peers, and all other adults.
-They must work cooperatively with everyone involved in Student Council.
- Rule infractions may result in dismissal from membership on Student Council, (determined by the council sponsor and the principal). 
                                                                              
Meetings
The student council members will meet once a month during regular school hours; however, special meetings may need to be called if projects demand more time.  Meetings will take place in Mrs. Hatfield’s classroom.

Goals
The goals of each member in the MES Student Council are to:
-develop leadership skills
-experience responsibility for school sponsored activities
-develop planning skills
-develop interaction and communication
-experience cooperation with peers and adults
-acquire an awareness of the community and environment
